Opening HDS files

Did your computer fail to open a HDS file? We explain what HDS files are and recommend software that we know can open or convert your HDS files.

What is a HDS file?

Files that contain the .hds file extension are most commonly associated with Windows Media Digital Rights Management files.

Windows Media Digital Rights Management is a platform that allows for the protection and secure transmission of a user's media files. The DRM files allow for the protected content to be played on computers, networks and portable devices without a compromise of security.

Hierarchical data systems also use the .hds file suffix. These HDS files contain the data files that are used by the hierarchical data system. For example, the XMap software application uses the .hds file extension for the hierarchical data files used by the program.

Try a universal file viewer

In addition to the products listed above, I would suggest that you try a universal file viewer like Free File Viewer. It can open over 200 different types of files - and very likely yours too! Download Free File Viewer.
