Opening FX files

Did your computer fail to open a FX file? We explain what FX files are and recommend software that we know can open or convert your FX files.

What is a FX file?

Files that contain the .fx file extension are most commonly associated with the Microsoft DirectX software application. Microsoft DirectX is a collection of application programming interfaces.

The FX files that are associated with this software are effects files that are created for the Direct3D component of Microsoft DirectX program. These files contain the plain text effects and properties for the associated file and are used to specify the textures, shading, rendering, lighting and other 3D effects.

The FastLynx software application is also known to use the .fx file suffix. These FX files contain the online guide files that are referenced by the software program.
