What are FTF files and how to open them
Are you having problems opening a FTF file or just wondering what they contain? We explain what these files are used for and show you software that we know can open or otherwise handle your files.
What is a FTF file?
A .FTF file is a Sony FlashTool Firmware file.
The .ftf file extension is created and used by Sony Ericsson as one of their proprietary file formats. The .ftf file represents the firmware and updates made for Xperia devices developed by Sony, although some Android developers use .ftf firmware files to store their updates.
FTF files usually come in compressed forms such as .zip or .rar, which can only be used after decompressing or extracting the files. A special Flash Tool that caters to Sony preferences is necessary for the flash firmware in Xperia devices.
The FTF file is commonly utilized for older versions of the Xperia series. However, today, the latest versions of Xperia smartphones use .elf files. And though .ftf files work relatively similar to .elf files, .ftf are more versatile in flash tools than the latter.
