How to open EVRC files

Did your computer fail to open an EVRC file? We explain what EVRC files are and recommend software that we know can open or convert your files.

What is an EVRC file?

EVRC files are Enhanced Variable Rate Codec audio file files, which you can read more about below.

The EVRC file extension indicates to your device which app can open the file. However, different apps may use the same file extension for different types of data. So an EVRC opener may not be able to open all kinds of EVRC files. In this case, though, we only know of one specific use.

Enhanced Variable Rate Codec audio file

Files with file extension .evrc are audio files in Enhanced Variable Rate Codec format.

This is an audio format developed by Qualcomm for speech transmission on early mobile CDMA networks.

EVRC is old technology invented in 1995, which has later been superseded by newer standards like SMV and CDMA2000 4GV, providing better voice quality and less bandwidth use.
