Opening EPM files

Did your computer fail to open an EPM file? We explain what EPM files are and recommend software that we know can open or convert your EPM files.

What is an EPM file?

The .epm file extension is a digital media file type that is commonly associated with the Destiny MPE Encoder. EPM means Encrypted Portable Media. EPM files are primarily created for disbrution of audio and video files in the Web, such as peer- to- peer network sharing and review invitation.

EPM files contain media information that is made using Destiny MPE Encoder. Destiny MPE Encoder was developed by Destiny Media Technologies, Incorporated, which is also the owner of .epm format. Play MPE is also a product of the said company that is specially designed to encrypt and decrypt media files, preparing it for distribution.

EPM files are data encrypted files of music and videos. They are so encrypted that opening them without a proper software and a decryption key is impossible. This is made to protect the music and/ or video contents in the file from being used or shared without the permission of the artist. EPM files are usually emailed especially to critique communities and digital arts reviewers.

Try a universal file viewer

In addition to the products listed above, I would suggest that you try a universal file viewer like Free File Viewer. It can open over 200 different types of files - and very likely yours too! Download Free File Viewer.
