What is a DT2 file?
Files that contain the .dt2 file extension are created by the Microsoft Live Messenger application. The files with the .dt2 file extension contain the Microsoft Live Messenger avatar images and emoticons. The DT2 files are actually PNG files, but these files have been renamed with the .dt2 file extension for use within the IM application.
The .dt2 file extension is also given to military files that have been created by the Digital Terrain Elevation Data program. These files are created by the National Imagery and Mapping Agency and contain information about the terrain of the areas that have been mapped.
