What are DS files and how to open them

What is a DS file?

DS files have multiple uses, and TWAIN Data Source is one of them. Read more about the other uses further down the page.

TWAIN Data Source File

Files that contain the .ds file extension are most commonly associated with TWAIN-compatible scanning software applications. The DS files that are used by these software programs are data source files.

The software and the related data source files provide a communication interface between the computer and the scanner when a user scans a document from a scanner into their computer using the associated scanning software.

How to open DS files

Important: Different programs may use files with the DS file extension for different purposes, so unless you are sure which format your DS file is, you may need to try a few different programs.

We know that one DS format is DrumSynth Preset. We have not yet analyzed in detail what these files contain and what they are used for. We're working on it.
