Opening DDF files

Did your computer fail to open a DDF file? We explain what DDF files are and recommend software that we know can open or convert your DDF files.

What is a DDF file?

The .ddf file extension is normally found in files that are considered as Diamond Directive Files, hence the extension abbreviation. The .ddf files are text files that are commonly utilized as setting files which can be edited and modified using any text editor. The .ddf files contain instructions and information to allow compression of files into a cabinet file which is crucial to the placement of the software in disk media.

Microsoft used .ddf files to create cabinet files that are being compressed to be part of the software that was distributed on disks. Cabinet files are used to reduce the file size and the associated download time for Web content that is found on the Internet or on corporate intranet servers.

Try a universal file viewer

In addition to the products listed above, I would suggest that you try a universal file viewer like Free File Viewer. It can open over 200 different types of files - and very likely yours too! Download Free File Viewer.
