What is a DCMVOLSET file?

A .DCMVOLSET file is a Noesis DICOM Volume Set file.

Noesis DICOM Volume Set files store 3-dimensional medical imaging volume definitions for use with the Noesis application. These files direct Noesis to assemble a series of 2D image slices (often DICOM- or j2k-encoded) into a volumetric model, typically for visualization or mesh generation based on scan data.

These files are produced by Noesis when handling scan data; they act as configuration manifests telling Noesis how to build volumes. The manifest lists metadata such as which slices compose the volume, down-sampling or raster mip-levels, offsets, channel or component splits, and which files to load as individual slices. After generation, Noesis reads the manifest to assemble the full volume, perform coordinate or orientation transforms, and optionally export mesh approximations derived from the volume.

Noesis DICOM Volume Set files begin with a fixed ASCII header containing the string NOE_DICOM_VOLUME_SET_VER at offset zero. The manifest then includes key-value entries: for example marchConfig (path to a marching cubes config file), mipDown (the mip level), showProgress, setAngleOffset (rotation offsets), loadOptions (flags controlling slice loading), followed by multiple dicomData entries which specify the image files used as slices.

How to open DCMVOLSET files

Important: Different programs may use files with the DCMVOLSET file extension for different purposes, so unless you are sure which format your DCMVOLSET file is, you may need to try a few different programs.
