What are DB files and how to open them

Are you having problems opening a DB file or are you simply curious about its contents? We're here to explain the properties of these files and provide you with software that can open or handle your DB files.

What is a DB file?

DB files have multiple uses, and Database is one of them. Read more about the other uses further down the page.

Database File

Files with the .db extension typically contain generic database files. These files store data in tables, and various database applications create them.

The .db file extension is also associated with the Thumbnail database files that are created within the Windows operating system. The Oracle database is another application that is commonly used to create files with the .db extension.

Because a wide variety of applications create DB files, the format of files within a file containing a .db extension may vary from one file to the next. Use the File.org File Analyzer to find out exactly what type of DB file you have.

How to open DB files

Important: Different programs may use files with the DB file extension for different purposes, so unless you are sure which format your DB file is, you may need to try a few different programs.

While we have not verified the apps ourselves yet, our users have suggested ten different DB openers which you will find listed below.
