What are CZD files and how to open them

Are you having problems opening a CZD file or are you simply curious about its contents? We're here to explain the properties of these files and provide you with software that can open or handle your CZD files.

What is a CZD file?

A .CZD file is a Crash Zone Drawing file.

Crash Zone Drawing is a diagram format produced by the Crash Zone and Crime Zone forensic mapping programs made by The CAD Zone. It serves to store detailed scaled diagrams of accident scenes, crime scenes, and other emergency‐related situations using specialized tools and symbol libraries. It is the program's native drawing format and the default when creating new diagrams.

Files in this format are authored with Crash Zone (or Crime Zone), which supports import of other CAD formats such as DWG, DXF, Generic CADD, total station coordinate files, ASCII data and RAW files from laser measurement devices. Finished diagrams are edited, labeled, and printed from the drawing program. Users may save or export drawings to other formats so they can be shared with CAD software.

These files are stored in a proprietary binary form, beginning with a signature at offset 0x50 0000, containing the ASCII string "CrashZone" at byte-offset 80, and a byte 0x2E at offset 92. These signatures help identify validity of Crash Zone Drawing files.
