CYSYM File

What are CYSYM files and how to open them

Are you having problems opening a CYSYM file or are you simply curious about its contents? We're here to explain the properties of these files and provide you with software that can open or handle your CYSYM files.

What is a CYSYM file?

A .CYSYM file is a Cypress PSoC Top-level Creator Symbol file.

Cypress PSoC Top-level Creator Symbol files store schematic symbol drawings for custom components created in the PSoC Creator IDE. These files define how a component appears in the schematic editor: the graphic shape, its terminals (pins), and the default instance name used when the component is dropped onto a design. They are part of creating or importing a Component, where a user can draw or use a wizard to make the symbol, set its terminals' names and types, optionally set a symbol label or title color, and specify how it shows in the Component Catalog.

PSoC Creator writes these files during component development. The symbol-file works together with other component files: an internal schematic (.cysch) defines the logic or hardware, source files provide the API, and this symbol file provides the visual representation. Other tools or the firmware do not directly edit it, but they reference its contents when you place or view a component in a project.

Inside the file, there is a binary header signature including a fixed byte-pattern at offset zero (for example, 84 1C 04 00… etc), and it contains strings such as "CYDESIGNER", "COMMON BASE", "CYARCHIVE VERSION", and "CYSYMBOL" which help identify its format.
