What are CWPRJ files and how to open them

What is a CWPRJ file?

A .CWPRJ file is a CanvasWorkspace Project file.

CanvasWorkspace Project files are working or editing files created by the Brother CanvasWorkspace software. These files store design work in progress, preserving editable elements such as shapes, text, color fills and strokes, layout and other editing information. They are not ready to be sent directly to a cutting machine.

These project files are written and read by CanvasWorkspace, which is used to design patterns for use with compatible Brother cutting machines. After finishing editing, designs are exported from the project format into a machine-readable format (FCM), which the machine itself can use. The machine cannot directly interpret project format files. When designs are being imported into CanvasWorkspace, editable elements are preserved only while staying in project format; some display and style information may be lost when exporting or importing between formats.

A project format file is identifiable as the native document format of Brother CanvasWorkspace, considered the working file. It holds all editing states like fill and line colors, positioning, layers, text objects, and image trace data, which would be lost or flattened when saving for use in the cutting machine.

How to open CWPRJ files

Important: Different programs may use files with the CWPRJ file extension for different purposes, so unless you are sure which format your CWPRJ file is, you may need to try a few different programs.
