What is a CM file?

CM files have multiple uses, and Brief Compiled Macro is one of them.

Brief Compiled Macro

These CM files contain compiled macros for use in the Brief text editor for Windows and OS/2. Macros help speed up repetitive tasks by executing a range of commands, being triggered by a menu selection or a hotkey combination. Brief was popular in the 1980s and 1990s and ended up being sold to Borland, who has since stopped selling the editor.

How to open CM files

Important: Different programs may use files with the CM file extension for different purposes, so unless you are sure which format your CM file is, you may need to try a few different programs.
