What are CLG files and how to open them

What is a CLG file?

CLG files have multiple uses, and Collage Maker Document is one of them. Read more about the other uses further down the page.

Collage Maker Document

Collage Maker Document files are project files used by the Collage Maker application created by Galleria Software. These files store all the settings and layout decisions for a collage in progress - where each graphics element (such as photos, textures, masks, or decorative stamps) is placed, scaled, rotated, and layered - but do not themselves contain full rasterized image output. They allow the project to be saved and reopened for further editing before final export to formats like JPG or PNG.

When Collage Maker writes one of these files, it records references to the external image files used (for example textures or masks), along with collection of settings such as layout templates, color adjustments, and layering instructions. During editing, the software reads this information to render the working view. Once editing is complete, the project can be exported into a standard image format for sharing or printing.

These project files are in a binary format. They include recognizable keywords and strings - such as "TEXTURES", "MASKS", "PROGRAM", "COLLAGE", ".JPG", and "DOCUMENTS AND SETTINGS" - and specific byte sequences at fixed offsets (for example an ASCII ".Ver" marker at offset 29, followed by 0x2E at offset 35).

How to open CLG files

Important: Different programs may use files with the CLG file extension for different purposes, so unless you are sure which format your CLG file is, you may need to try a few different programs.

Windows System Image Manager Catalog File

Files that contain the .clg file extension are most commonly used by the Windows System Image Manager for SIM catalog files. These files contain details about the contents of a Windows System Image Manager image file.

A CLG file can include a variety of information about the contents of a Windows System Image Manager image, including details about the state of the packages and components that are used to display the contents of an associated WIM file. The WIM files contain the actual image data. The CLG files contain the WIM file's catalog data. These files are usually included with a user's Windows installation discs.
