Super Nintendo Emulator Cheat Code File

Files with the .cht file extension are usually associated with files containing cheat codes for various games created for the Super Nintendo gaming console.

SNES game emulators often use the cheat codes stored in a CHT file to enable "cheats" for Nintendo games that are played on a computer rather than on the actual SNES gaming console. These CHT files make it easier for a user to play the associated Super Nintendo game.

Harvard Graphics Chart File

Harvard Graphics Chart File is a proprietary vector‐graphics chart format developed by Software Publishing Corporation as part of the Harvard Graphics (DOS) suite, chiefly for version 2.x. It was used to store individual chart objects created using that software, such as bar charts, line graphs, pie charts, etc, so they could be edited, displayed, or embedded into presentations. The files are output by Harvard Graphics when a chart is saved by its "chart" function in DOS versions (not Windows), and are typically used later within Harvard Graphics or converted by utilities for presentation‐software that supports the format.

The file is written by Harvard Graphics (DOS) version 2.0 and later in the 2.x line; the chart data includes layout, data values, text labels, axis scales, and drawing attributes. These files are read back by the same version of Harvard Graphics, or used by conversion tools such as the HG Translator in Microsoft PowerPoint (for version 2.0e or earlier) to import charts into PowerPoint format. Chart files in this format are single‐chart only (not full presentations) and use vector graphics rather than raster images so that scaling preserves clarity on print or plotter output. There is no compression applied to the chart content; numeric data is stored in little‐endian format.

Files of this format begin with the ASCII signature "Falc" at offset zero - that is bytes 46 61 6C 63 in ASCII ("F-a-l-c")

IBM SPSS Template File

IBM SPSS Template Files store a template for charts and layout settings that IBM SPSS software applies when creating output graphics. They define how charts, plots, titles, legends, lines, labels, fill styles, fonts, and other visual elements will appear, so that repeated charts can share the same appearance style.

This template file format is created by IBM SPSS when saving a customized chart with desired formatting. It is then referenced by SPSS syntax commands such as the SET CTEMPLATE subcommand or in the Chart Editor's "Save Chart Template" feature. When opened or applied, SPSS reads the template to style future charts and plots to match the saved design rather than using default look settings.

The files begin with a distinctive binary/ASCII signature: at offset zero the bytes 0x57040000535053532074656D706C6174652066696C65 appear, which corresponds to the ASCII string "W…SPSStemplatefile".

Open Access Chart

Open Access Chart format is the test chart recognition template defined by ArgyllCMS, an open-source color calibration system. It holds the layout information needed to match up a photograph or scan of a printed color test chart with its expected color patches. It is crucial when Argyll's scanin tool processes an image to extract device RGB or scanner data that corresponds to the chart's sample boxes for profiling or color measurement.

Argyll generates these templates using its scanin tool with a special generation mode. Users typically start by printing or procuring a known target chart, then create or use an existing Open Access Chart recognition file (.CHT) that describes box positions (patch layouts), edges, fiducial markers, and optionally approximate expected color values. scanin uses that file to align the scan image, identify sample boxes, and output a measurement file (.ti3) containing numerical values matching each patch.

Technically this format is a human-readable ASCII file organized in ordered keyword sections. Key parts appear in the order BOXES, BOX_SHRINK, REF_ROTATION, XLIST, YLIST, EXPECTED. The BOXES section defines named fiducial, diagnostic, or sample boxes by listing their labels, grid spans, sizes, origin and increments. XLIST and YLIST define vertical and horizontal edge or "tick" positions with strength and crossing count, to help locate features in the image. EXPECTED (optional) gives approximate color values per box in either XYZ or Lab space to improve recognition.

RetroArch Cheats

RetroArch Cheats files store collections of cheat codes for video games used by RetroArch, a frontend for emulation (via libretro cores). They are written as human-readable text files. Each file typically applies to a single game (or its ROM), defining one or more cheats such as infinite health, unlimited lives, or unlocking features. These cheat files allow users to load, enable, disable, or modify cheat codes through the RetroArch cheat menu.

Creation and editing of these cheats happens either in RetroArch itself - using its built-in memory/value search tools or manual entry - or by getting cheat files from the libretro cheats database. RetroArch reads these .cht files when a cheat file is selected for a game and applies enabled cheats every time the game is run (or when changes are applied in-session).

Technical identifiers include lines such as cheats = N which declares how many cheat entries follow. Each entry is prefixed with cheatX_ where X is a zero-based index, followed by keys like desc (description), code (the actual cheat code), enable (true or false). The file often contains strings like CHEAT0_ENABLE, CHEAT0_CODE, CHEAT0_DESC. Some files also have large code strings combining address:value pairs and operators such as "+". Byte signatures noticeable in these files include the ASCII signature cheat at the start of the file, and keywords such as CHEAT0_ENABLE, CHEAT0_C, CHEATS.

WinWorks Chart File

We know that one CHT format is WinWorks Chart File. We have not yet analyzed in detail what these files contain and what they are used for. We're working on it.
