What are CFP files and how to open them

What is a CFP file?

CFP files have multiple uses, and Cdrtfe Project is one of them. Read more about the other uses further down the page.

Cdrtfe Project

This format acts as a saved project file for the Windows program cdrtfe, which is a graphical front-end for CD/DVD/Blu-ray disc burning tasks. It records the user's burn settings and configuration while preparing a disc project before writing or saving an image. The project file stores which files/folders are to be burned, session and speed settings, filesystem options, burn modes (e.g. Audio, Data, Video), whether or not to make bootable discs, and other preferences the user has selected inside the cdrtfe's interface.

cdrtfe produces the file when the user saves their current work so later they can reload all their settings rather than reconfigure from scratch. The project file is read by cdrtfe (but not by disc-burn tools directly) to restore all interface settings and options before starting the burn or saving an ISO image.

Internally the file is a plain-text, INI-style configuration. It begins with a section named [General] as its first line. It also contains recognizable keywords like CDRECORDCUSTOPTSCOUNT, MKISOFSCUSTOPTSINDEX, USEERRORPROTECTION, FLACQUALITY, VIDEOCD, UDF/Rock Ridge/ISO level settings, among many others. These entries map directly to preferences in the cdrtfe user interface.

How to open CFP files

Important: Different programs may use files with the CFP file extension for different purposes, so unless you are sure which format your CFP file is, you may need to try a few different programs.

While Cdrtfe Project is a popular type of CFP-file, we know of 2 different uses of the .CFP file extension. Different software may use files with the same extension for different types of data.

CoverFactory Project

CoverFactory Project files are editable project files used by the CoverFactory program, made by Answers 2000 Limited, to create 3-dimensional ebook covers, boxes, binders, and similar cover art. These files store all the layout components - such as 2-D art or photographic images used on front/back/spine, text and vector graphics overlaid, background fills or textures, and the settings for rendering those flat elements into a 3-D result. The project file lets designs be saved and edited later before exporting to standard image formats.

CoverFactory writes these files; the file serves as the working state of a cover art design in progress. When a user opens the project, they can edit image objects, reposition or hide surfaces, adjust vector elements (text, shapes, barcodes), modify lighting, shadow and reflection effects, change perspective, and then export the final artwork to JPEG, PNG, BMP or similar formats for publication or promotional use.

These files begin with a signature of bytes "0x208887892092948900000EC04007C1FAFA" at offset 0.
