What are CCS files and how to open them

What is a CCS file?

A .CCS file is a CableNut Custom Settings file.

CableNut Custom Settings files store predefined tweaks and registry parameters that optimize Windows network connections. Created by the CableNut Adjuster, they are used when configuring Internet connections over cable, DSL, satellite or dial-up. The main role of the format is to let the user load a package of performance settings suitable for their connection type and operating system, and then apply them into the Windows registry so those optimized network behaviour values take effect.

The format is produced by the CableNut Adjuster program. A user can choose a settings file from its built-in collection (for example matching connection type: Cable, DSL, Satellite or 56K modem, and OS: Windows 9x family vs Windows NT/2000/XP), or generate a custom one using an online calculator, then save it in this format. After loading such a file in CableNut, those settings are shown in dialogs, and when the user selects "Save to Registry," they write into Windows registry entries. Rebooting is usually required for full effect.

Files begin with the ASCII header string "CableNut Custom Settings File " at offset zero.

How to open CCS files

Important: Different programs may use files with the CCS file extension for different purposes, so unless you are sure which format your CCS file is, you may need to try a few different programs.
