CBEA File
What are CBEA files and how to open them
Are you having problems opening a CBEA file or are you simply curious about its contents? We're here to explain the properties of these files and provide you with software that can open or handle your CBEA files.
What is a CBEA file?
A .CBEA file is a Casio BE-300 Installation Package file.
Casio BE-300 Installation Packages are special setup files created by Casio for its BE-300 (Cassiopeia BE-300 Pocket Manager) handheld computer. They bundle drivers or add-on programs so they install cleanly on the device via Casio's software utilities like PC Connect or using a file explorer on the device itself. The format supports both installing into the device's internal memory or onto a Compact Flash (CF) memory card. For example, a user can transfer a Casio package file to the BE-300, double-tap it in File Manager, and let the built-in installer unpack and deploy its contents. This package format is often distributed by Casio as part of driver update kits or bundled CD-ROMs.
The package format is binary and executable: it carries compressed or embedded files such as INF files (installation instructions), DLLs (drivers), executables, text resources, and version metadata. The installer uses standard Windows CE mechanisms like Install.inf to guide file copying, replacement rules (e.g. COPYFLG_REPLACEONLY), and deletion of obsolete files. Built components often include Windows CE system libraries such as Coredll.dll and version strings, resource sections (.TEXT .DATA .RSRC etc.), along with the literal strings "THIS PROGRAM CANNOT BE RUN IN DOS MODE." These show its similarity to Win32/CE style setup executables.
At the start of the file there are identifying bytes: it begins with 0x0001 at offset 0, and at offset 3 bytes spell "Casio Jx74" (in UTF-16), related to Casio model JX-740 (which is another name for the BE-300). Later in the binary there are further signatures like "C.E3…00" and "Install.inf", and the file contains various resource strings such as "PROGRAM FILES", "COPY FILES", and "VERSION". These byte signatures and keyword strings are used by tools like TrID to recognize this format.
