What is a CAPROJ file?

A .CAPROJ file is a Construct 2 Project file.

Construct 2 Project is the format used by Scirra's Construct 2 game editor to store a "folder project" - a multi-file version of a project split across many files. It holds metadata and references to every asset in the project, such as layouts (levels or screens), event sheets (game logic), object types, sounds and music, and any imported files, along with the organisation into folders within the project. It does not encapsulate all the data itself; those pieces live in separate XML files in specific subfolders.

Scirra Construct 2 produces these folder projects. The project creator saves work as a folder, with a main project file that quickly loads and saves. This arrangement makes editing large projects easier, especially for collaboration, because different people can edit different subfiles without conflicting. To share or distribute projects, a single-file alternative (.capx) that bundles everything can be used.

Technical details: the main project file is XML-formatted, starting with an XML prolog such as <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?> and includes tags like <c2project>, <layouts>, <event-sheets>, <object-types>, and entries such as "SOUNDS-FOLDER EXPANDED", "EVENT-SHEET", "DESCRIPTION", "AUTHOR", "WINDOW-SIZE", "USED-BEHAVIORS" and "GLOBAL-INSTANCES" among its identifiable strings.

How to open CAPROJ files
