What is a BOV file?
Brick of Values or the .bov file extension is found commonly tagged with VisIt. VisIt is a free, open source visualization tool for data manifesting defined on two- and three-dimensional structured and unstructured meshes. VisIt also features a plug-in architecture that permits various plotting and data processing operations. To maximize the usage of the tool and allow integration with other software, the files that are produced by using VisIt can also be imported from many different data formats. But the main focus of VisIt is in .bov files.
VisIt is primarily used to help scientists to visualize the scientific and research data generated. Once the data are entered in the system, the data are immediately analyzed and grouped together to form one recognizable manifest which the scientists use to draw their result and formulate another scientific data.
BOV is different from .bov. In every BOV file there are two components: the .bov file and the .dat file. The .bov file is the controlling file. It is a text file that contains the defining information regarding the .dat files. .bov files on the otherhand are summary of the .dat files which contain the more complex scientific data.
