What are BKG files and how to open them

What is a BKG file?

A .BKG file is a Samsung Document file.

Samsung Document files are used by Samsung devices and applications to store formatted document content in a proprietary structured format based on Microsoft's compound file technology. These files function like a container - they hold multiple streams of related data (such as images, page definitions, anchor/frame definitions) inside a single file, organized in a directory-storage hierarchy. Samsung software that writes these files creates them when documents include layout, images, master pages, anchored frames and other composition elements beyond plain text.

These documents are produced by Samsung's document-creation tools (such as JungUm Global Viewer and related Samsung viewer/editor tools using Samsung formats) and are read by those same tools for display or editing. Because they use compound file storage, parts of the document (for example "MASTERPAGE0", "IMAGE STACK", "ANCHOR FRAME") are stored separately within the container. When editing or viewing, the application extracts or renders the relevant streams (content, images, formatting) and presents the composed document view.

These files are technically Microsoft Compound File Binary Format (also known as OLE or CFBF) containers: they begin with the magic number D0 CF 11 E0 A1 B1 1A E1 00 and inside include streams or storages with names like SummaryInformation, Anchored Frame, Image Stack, MasterPAGE0, Root Entry, Attribute, Contents, "Document File" and strings referencing "Samsung". That signature distinguishes them from many other file types.

How to open BKG files

Important: Different programs may use files with the BKG file extension for different purposes, so unless you are sure which format your BKG file is, you may need to try a few different programs.
