BKF File Type

- The quick facts

What are BKF files and how to open them

Are you having problems opening a BKF file or just wondering what they contain? We explain what these files are used for and show you software that we know can open or otherwise handle your files.

What is a BKF file?

A .BKF file is a Windows NT Backup Archive file.

These files are created by the Windows Backup Utility tool. This tool was included with the Windows NT and Windows XP Pro operating systems. The BKF files that are used by these operating systems contain a catalog of files that have been backed up with the utility. If the data on a user's computer becomes corrupt, overwritten, or erased, the BKF file can then be used to restore the information on the user's system.

How to open BKF files

Important: Different programs may use files with the BKF file extension for different purposes, so unless you are sure which format your BKF file is, you may need to try a few different programs.

While we have not verified the app ourselves yet, our users have suggested a single BKF opener which you will find listed below.
