BIZ File

What are BIZ files and how to open them

Are you having problems opening a BIZ file or are you simply curious about its contents? We're here to explain the properties of these files and provide you with software that can open or handle your BIZ files.

What is a BIZ file?

BIZ files have multiple uses, and Business Card Design is one of them. Read more about the other uses further down the page.

Business Card Design

The .biz file extension is commonly associated with Broderbund Business Card Studio software. The BIZ files contain business card projects that have been created by the software. These files include the text and images to be printed on the business cards as well as the layout of the card.

How to open BIZ files

Important: Different programs may use files with the BIZ file extension for different purposes, so unless you are sure which format your BIZ file is, you may need to try a few different programs.

While we have not verified the apps ourselves yet, our users have suggested ten different BIZ openers which you will find listed below.

All known file formats using extension .BIZ

While Business Card Design is a popular type of BIZ-file, we know of 3 different uses of the .BIZ file extension. Different software may use files with the same extension for different types of data.

Division DVS 3d Model

Division dVS 3D Model files store complete 3-dimensional scenes created by the dVS virtual reality software from the UK company Division Ltd. They capture geometry, structure, and components of a virtual world for display in immersive or desktop-based environments. Such files are authored within the dVS system, often used with the ProVision series of VR workstations, and are used to build interactive visual models and simulations for design, training, or demonstration.

The structure of the file is binary, encoding meshes, spatial layout, material or texture references, and scene graph elements defining object relationships, lighting, camera positions, and navigation paths. These files are written by Division Ltd's dVS authoring tools and are read by dVS display or rendering software, which use them to load and visualize the stored virtual scenes exactly as authored.

Files of this format are identified internally by a fixed ASCII header at the very beginning: the signature "bizv1.0(c)DIVISIONLtd1992" appears starting at offset 0. That signature marks version 1.0 of the format.

PrintMaster Gold Document

PrintMaster Gold Document files are project files saved by the Broderbund/American Greetings PrintMaster software, especially "Gold" or equivalent editions. They store design layouts for print crafts and projects such as greeting cards, business cards, banners, calendars and other personalized printed items. The file contains all the design elements - text, images, clip art, formatting - that allow the project to be edited later and then printed.

These files are produced by PrintMaster (Gold edition and similar versions), which is available for Windows and macOS. The software allows creation from built-in templates or from scratch, and the saved document can be reopened in PrintMaster for further editing. Output can be printed directly or exported to other formats supported by PrintMaster - though compatibility with other applications or versions may vary.

Technically, the file is an OLE2-multistream compound file (see initial signature bytes D0 CF 11 E0 A1 B1 1A E1 at file start) containing named internal metadata fields. Identifiable strings include "PRINTMASTER GOLD DOCUMENT", sender information fields such as "SENDER FIRST NAME", "SENDER COMPANY", "SENDER ADDRESS1", and layout related strings like "CONTENTS" among others. These internal keywords help tools recognize the file as a PrintMaster Gold document.
