What is a BDSPROJ file?

A .BDSPROJ file is a Borland Developer Studio Project file.

Borland Developer Studio Project (.bdsproj) is a project configuration file used by older versions of Borland's RAD Studio and Delphi products. It stores all of the settings needed to build a software project: which source files belong to the project, what compiler and linker options to use, where output goes, GUIDs and project personality, build configurations such as debug or release, and other metadata required for compiling and running the project. The IDE reads this file when loading or saving a project, and updates it whenever project properties change. Embarcadero Delphi is the main program that creates, edits, and uses .bdsproj files.

This format was used in Borland Developer Studio up to version 2006 (BDS 2006) and earlier. In Delphi 2007 and later, .bdsproj was replaced by the .dproj extension which is used with the newer MSBuild‐based project system. The .bdsproj file is a text‐based XML file.

Technically, .bdsproj files begin with the ASCII XML declaration "" at the start of the file. Within the XML stream are tags and attributes that include identifiers such as BORLANDPROJECT and GUID. The file often includes strings like PROJECTTYPE, PERSONALITYINFO, OPTION NAME, MAIN, STRI, and other XML‐format keywords as part of its schema.
