What are BCA files and how to open them

What is a BCA file?

A .BCA file is a Jetico BCArchive Encrypted Archive file.

Jetico BCArchive Encrypted Archive files are secure, compressed containers created with the BCArchive utility from Jetico. They bundle one or more files and folders into a single archive, apply compression to reduce size, and encrypt the result to protect contents using either a password or a public key.

Creation takes place through Jetico BCArchive on Windows, where users select files or folders to include, choose compression and encryption settings (which algorithm, symmetric or asymmetric, hash algorithm, etc.), and generate new archives. These archives can optionally be self-extracting, meaning they carry within them the necessary code to decompress and decrypt without needing a separate program. Users can edit existing archives by adding, removing, or renaming items, or extract contents when they supply the correct decryption credentials.

Internally the file is organised into three parts: a header with metadata including positions and sizes of other parts; a key block holding one or more encrypted keys (based on ASN.1 format), each enabling access (by password or public key) to the archive; and a data block split into clusters that function somewhat like a FAT file system. Each cluster is compressed and encrypted with the main archive key. The archive supports dynamic compacting so that when clusters inside it are modified, old versions are replaced and unused space reclaimed.

These files begin with the ASCII signature JeticoEncryptArc at offset zero (bytes "0x4A657469636F456E6372797074417263" at offset 0).

How to open BCA files

Important: Different programs may use files with the BCA file extension for different purposes, so unless you are sure which format your BCA file is, you may need to try a few different programs.
