What are BBCD files and how to open them

What is a BBCD file?

A .BBCD file is a BobCAD-CAM Drawing file.

BobCAD-CAM Drawing is the native document format produced by the BobCAD-CAM software from BobCAD. It stores all the information for both the CAD (shape, dimensions, layers) and CAM (toolpaths, stock setup, machining features) parts of a design so work can be saved and resumed, including machine setup, geometry, feature definitions and manufacturing instructions.

BobCAD-CAM Drawing files are created when a user saves their design in BobCAD-CAM, starting with a new project or importing CAD geometry, then adding CAM job-related details. Re-opening one allows further editing of geometry, adjustment of machining strategies, or exporting to other formats. Only this native format preserves the full CAM Job information; exporting to other formats drops CAM-specific data and retains only geometry.

Internally the file begins with identifiable binary and ASCII signatures including at the very start a 0xFFFF word, later an ASCII phrase "CBobCADDoc" at offset 6, and many embedded field names such as CPartHeaderData, ArttreeItemDataReliefModel, CSettingsDimensionData among others which mark sections for geometry, layers, display settings, text/unit settings, arrow/point data, and entity definitions.

How to open BBCD files

Important: Different programs may use files with the BBCD file extension for different purposes, so unless you are sure which format your BBCD file is, you may need to try a few different programs.
