BBAS File
What are BBAS files and how to open them
Are you having problems opening a BBAS file or are you simply curious about its contents? We're here to explain the properties of these files and provide you with software that can open or handle your BBAS files.
What is a BBAS file?
A .BBAS file is a BobCAD Art Surface file.
BobCAD Art Surface files store 3D surface data for use in BobCAD-CAM's BobART module, which creates artistic reliefs and textures. They represent a saved art surface created or edited using BobART, and can be used for embossing features, textures and decorative elements within the BobCAD-CAM system. Ordinarily, a designer generates the surface via BobART, then saves it in this format so it may be reloaded, modified, or applied as an emboss or texture surface later.
The files are read and written by BobCAD-CAM, specifically its BobART add-on. Within BobCAD-CAM a user can load these surfaces when creating "Emboss from BobART Surface" or "Texture from Art Surface" features. The design workflow typically involves creating or importing an art surface, saving it as this format, and then applying or embossing it onto a 3D model or sign as part of the machining-oriented output.
Each BobCAD Art Surface file begins with a signature in its header. At offset zero there is a byte with value 0xFF. At offset four begins a wide-character ASCII string reading "BobCAD Art Surface File Ver", encoded as successive UTF-16 characters ("B-o-b-C-A-D … F-i-l-e … V-e-r"). The file also contains the literal string "B'O'B'C'A'D' 'A'R'T' 'S'U'R'F'A'C'E' 'F'I'L'E' 'V'E'R" somewhere in its content.
