What are ASICE files and how to open them
Are you having problems opening an ASICE file or are you simply curious about its contents? We're here to explain the properties of these files and provide you with software that can open or handle your ASICE files.
What is an ASICE file?
An .ASICE file is an ASiC Extended Container file.
An ASiC Extended Container is a ZIP-based digital container defined by the European Telecommunications Standards Institute (ETSI) to bundle together one or more files with advanced electronic signatures, timestamp tokens or both. It allows any number of data objects, each protected by one or more signatures (for example in XAdES or CAdES format), to be stored alongside metadata so that their authenticity and integrity can be verified over time.
The container is constructed so that different data objects inside it can each have their own signatures. Additional metadata or manifests (including in the META-INF folder) can describe which signatures apply to which files, and how they relate. It supports long-term validation of signatures by including evidence record manifest files or archive manifests and timestamp tokens, depending on the signature format used. Standards documents specify that the file extension ".asice" (or ".sce" on systems restricted to three-character extensions) be used, and the media type for the container must be "application/vnd.etsi.asic-e+zip".
At the technical level, the container begins with the bytes "PK" at offset zero, indicating a ZIP archive. Approximately thirty bytes in the archive there is a file named "mimetype" or a comment field that specifies the MIME media type "application/vnd.etsi.asic-e+zip" to clearly identify the container type.
