What is an ASHLANG file?

An .ASHLANG file is an Ashampoo Products Translation file.

Ashampoo Products Translation (AshLang) defines a binary file format used by Ashampoo software to store localized messages so that the application can present its user interface in different user-selected languages. These files are created with Ashampoo Translation Studio, and then embedded into Ashampoo products like Burning Studio and Media Player so that message text appears according to the language indicated in the file name. The editor retains the original English source text along with each translated target string, enabling the program to fall back on English when needed.

AshLang files are not meant for human editing; they are designed for internal use. The format is binary, optimized for fast lookup by the software. The typical file name follows the pattern PRODUCTNAME-LANGUAGEID.ashLang (for example AutorunEditor-de-de.ashLang), with PRODUCTNAME identifying the Ashampoo component and LANGUAGEID following a locale code. The files are written by Ashampoo's language editor tools and consumed at runtime by the product to display translated messages.

Internally the format can be recognized by specific byte signatures: it starts with ASCII "URESFILE" at offset 0, contains ".lang" around offset 11, includes later ASCII-tags such as "ASH_LANG_CREATION_TOOL_VERSION", "ASHAMPOO", "DATA", "VERS", "LANG", among others. The header also includes fixed numeric values at certain positions (for example 0x00000000006C616E67 at offset 11, ASCII for ".lang") which help software detect these files unambiguously.
