What are ARIA files and how to open them

What is an ARIA file?

An .ARIA file is an Aria Maestosa Project file.

Aria Maestosa project files store editable music compositions created with the Aria Maestosa sequencer/editor. They capture MIDI-based arrangements including multiple tracks (keyboard, guitar, drums, controller), along with scoring, tablature or piano-roll views. These project files are meant for composing, editing, playing back, and exporting music, not for final distribution formats.

The main program that writes this format is Aria Maestosa, an open-source MIDI sequencer/editor released under the GPL license. The workflow typically is composing or editing music in Aria Maestosa, then exporting to a standard MIDI file once the project is finalized. Project files are used for ongoing editing: they store all settings (track names, instruments, tuning, tempo, measure signatures, etc.) needed to reopen and continue work in Aria Maestosa.

Files in this format are formatted in readable XML. The beginning of the file includes a signature at the start of the file such as the ASCII string ".sequencemaintempo=" at offset zero. Internal labels found throughout include entries like GUITARTUNING, MEASURE, CHANNELMANAGEMENT, FILEFORMATVERSION, BEATRESOLUTION, TRACK NAME, INSTRUMENT ID, KEY SHARPS/FLATS, TRIPLET, VIEW XSCROLL/YSCROLL, CLEF types ("F_CLEF", "G_CLEF"), EDITOR MODE, and zoom or height settings. These keywords help identify and distinguish this format from other uses of the same extension.

How to open ARIA files

Important: Different programs may use files with the ARIA file extension for different purposes, so unless you are sure which format your ARIA file is, you may need to try a few different programs.
