ANY File
What are ANY files and how to open them
Are you having problems opening an ANY file or are you simply curious about its contents? We're here to explain the properties of these files and provide you with software that can open or handle your ANY files.
What is an ANY file?
An .ANY file is an AnyRail Model Railroad Layout file.
AnyRail Model Railroad Layout files store detailed plans for designing model railway track arrangements using AnyRail, a track planning tool from DRail Modelspoor Software. Such files save a layout's tracks, curves, switch points (turnouts), scenery, structure placement (trees, buildings, signals), measurement settings, and user-defined sections all in one project. Their purpose is to design and visualize a model train layout to scale before physically building anything.
These files are produced and read by AnyRail. A user builds a layout inside the program by selecting pieces from a library of track components, placing and connecting them, defining sections (distinct functional or scenic parts of the layout), setting dimensions and scale, and arranging objects and scenery. AnyRail can export the layout plan into other formats (for example for JMRI PanelPro or for 3D files).
Internally, the file begins with a binary structure marked by a serialized archive tag (serialization::archive) at byte offset 0, and contains identifiable strings such as the vendor or format name ("AnyRail") plus keywords like "TURNOUT" that indicate data about track switches or turnouts.
