While Amusic Tracker Audio Module is a popular type of AMD-file, we know of 2 different uses of the .AMD file extension. Different software may use files with the same extension for different types of data.

Animecha Animation Data

Animecha Animation Data files store frame sequences used by the MSX graphics-animation editor Animecha for creating moving images on MSX2 and MSX2+ computers. They contain animation data that the Animecha program writes so the user can design and play back animations, edit frame timing, and combine image frames into animated sequences.

These files are created and edited exclusively by the Animecha editor, part of the TEMPEST / MAR'Z Project toolset for MSX. After designing an animation using Animecha, the software saves animation sequences in this format so they can be reloaded later for further editing or playback on MSX systems or emulators.

Each file begins with a three-byte ASCII signature AMD found at offset 0, used to identify it unambiguously.
