What are AKPIC files and how to open them

Are you having problems opening an AKPIC file or are you simply curious about its contents? We're here to explain the properties of these files and provide you with software that can open or handle your AKPIC files.

What is an AKPIC file?

An .AKPIC file is an AnkerMaker AI Detection Info file.

AnkerMaker AI Detection Info files store auxiliary data used by AnkerMake's AI-based print failure detection system. They are generated by AnkerMake Studio (or AnkerMake Slicer) when slicing a print for an AnkerMake M5 printer with the AI camera feature enabled. The printer uses these files during printing to compare live camera feed images to expected visual features in order to detect issues like first‐layer adhesion failure, spaghetti mess, or extruder jams. Without both the standard print instructions file and this AI detection file made together, the AI detection feature cannot operate.

These files are created automatically (or via an optional "Create AI file" checkbox) when the M5 printer is selected in the slicing software. AnkerMake Studio exports two files together: the G-code (or A-code) file that directs the printer what to do, and the AI detection file which is used by the printer's internal monitoring system. To get AI detection, the user must copy both files to the printer - typically via USB‐C drive or Wi-Fi. This detection feature works locally even without an internet connection.

The file begins with a unique byte signature (0xA13DA13D0000000001000000 at offset 0), and may also include embedded JPEG layers (like "Dmesh_layer1.jpg") and identifiers such as ".ACODE" and "JFIF." The file type is identified by the format name ("AnkerMaker AI Detection Info"), and the extension is .AKPIC. It is produced by AnkerMake's TRiD‐recognized format system, meant for the printer's internal AI monitoring rather than for manual editing.
