What are AIPD files and how to open them

What is an AIPD file?

An .AIPD file is an AIPD Bitmap file.

AIPD Bitmap is a proprietary image file format developed by National Instruments for use in its Vision/IMAQ module. It stores uncompressed image data of many types (8-bit, 16-bit, RGB, floating point, complex, etc.) together with image-calibration metadata, overlays and template information used in machine-vision tasks.

Vision users generate these files when saving images for later processing inside LabVIEW or IMAQ Vision workflows, especially when image fidelity and internal metadata must be preserved. These files are typically read back by the same NI software; the format is not widely documented for third-party use.

Files begin with the ASCII signature AIPD at byte offset zero.

How to open AIPD files

Important: Different programs may use files with the AIPD file extension for different purposes, so unless you are sure which format your AIPD file is, you may need to try a few different programs.
