AGA File
What are AGA files and how to open them
Are you having problems opening an AGA file or are you simply curious about its contents? We're here to explain the properties of these files and provide you with software that can open or handle your AGA files.
What is an AGA file?
An .AGA file is a Lotus Agenda Data Objects file.
Lotus Agenda Data Objects files store the contents portion of Agenda version 1.0 databases, created by Lotus's DOS-based personal information management software Agenda. These files hold the user's items and their free-text notes (but not the database's structural parts such as view definitions, category hierarchies, or templates). Agenda 2.0 reads .AGA files when converting from version 1.0 into the newer format.
When an Agenda version 1.0 file is saved, its data splits into two parts. The .AGA file contains just the "contents portion" (the items, notes, dates and assignments), while the "structure portion" - category trees, views, conditional formatting and layout - goes into a separate .AGB file. During upgrade, Lotus Agenda uses the .AGA data and merges it with structure info to create the version 2.0 format file (.AG).
Technically, .AGA files have identifiable byte signatures: they begin with the two-byte value 0x3E00 at offset 0, include the byte 0xAB at offset 43, and at offset 1144 carry the ASCII sequence "!Tras" (bytes 0x2154726173). Many standard internal keywords occur in the file's text portions, including "REFERENCE", "PRSTART", "PREND", "DATE", "DESC", "LINE", "MAIN", "PAGE", "TIME", "CIRC", "TRAS", and strings like ".STF".
