What are ACS3 files and how to open them

What is an ACS3 file?

An .ACS3 file is an AIMP Skin file.

An AIMP Skin file with extension .acs3 is a "compiled skin" package used to change the appearance of AIMP version 3's user interface. It is created by the developers of AIMP using their official SkinEditor. The .acs3 file bundles all images, layout definitions, fonts, colors, and GUI element settings that define how panels, borders, text, and containers should look when a skin is applied. ACS3 is meant for distribution only - it cannot be edited directly.

To edit a skin, the matching project file (.acs3proj) is needed; the project file holds all editable elements before compilation. AIMP SkinEditor takes these project files and produces the .acs3 format. When using AIMP, placing an .acs3 skin file into the Skins folder allows the program to recognize and apply the skin during runtime.

Technically, .acs3 files start with the ASCII header ACS3 at byte offset 0. This signature distinguishes them from .acs2 and .acs4 files, which begin with ACS2 and ACS4 respectively.

How to open ACS3 files

Important: Different programs may use files with the ACS3 file extension for different purposes, so unless you are sure which format your ACS3 file is, you may need to try a few different programs.
