ACM File
What are ACM files and how to open them
Are you having problems opening an ACM file or are you simply curious about its contents? We're here to explain the properties of these files and provide you with software that can open or handle your ACM files.
What is an ACM file?
ACM files have multiple uses, and Interplay Compressed Audio Format is one of them. Read more about the other uses further down the page.
Interplay Compressed Audio Format
These ACM files contain the compressed audio format that Interplay Entertainment uses for its games.
This format makes use of lossy compression because it converts to WAV and then recompresses to OGG. This makes it half the size of the original file size.
ACM has the following characteristics: It can have varying sample rates, but the most used is 22050 Hz, 16 bits, and stereo.
How to open ACM files
Important: Different programs may use files with the ACM file extension for different purposes, so unless you are sure which format your ACM file is, you may need to try a few different programs.
While we have not verified the apps ourselves yet, our users have suggested three different ACM openers which you will find listed below.

All known file formats using extension .ACM
While Interplay Compressed Audio Format is a popular type of ACM-file, we know of 2 different uses of the .ACM file extension. Different software may use files with the same extension for different types of data.
Windows Audio Compression Manager Driver
These ACM files contain the audio drivers used by the Audio Compression Manager framework built into Windows.
By making use of RIFF-compatible filetypes like WAV or AVI, we can store compressor encoded audio data. Microsoft encourages us to use DirectShow, seeing as ACM is an outdated framework/API.
ACM does not support newer compressions like MP4, Ogg Vorbis, and FLAC.
Various apps that use files with this extension
These apps are known to open certain types of ACM files. Remember, different programs may use ACM files for different purposes, so you may need to try out a few of them to be able to open your specific file.
