Did your computer fail to open an ACL file? We explain what they are used for and recommend software that we know can open or otherwise handle your .ACL files.
What is an ACL file?
Files that contain the .acl file extension are most commonly associated with auto-correct list files. These files are used by a variety of different Microsoft Office software applications.
When a user is working within a Microsoft Office application and makes a grammar or spelling error, the auto-correct feature will automatically correct the error by referencing the information that is contained in the program's ACL file.
When the ACL file for one Office application is modified, the changes will normally be reflected in the ACL files of all of the other Office applications. Oftentimes a user will make changes to this file when his or her dictionary is alerting the user of spelling errors that are not actually grammar errors.
The ArchiCrypt Live software program has also been known to use the .acl file suffix. These ACL files contain secured data files that have been encrypted with the software program.
