AB3I File

What are AB3I files and how to open them

Are you having problems opening an AB3I file or are you simply curious about its contents? We're here to explain the properties of these files and provide you with software that can open or handle your AB3I files.

What is an AB3I file?

An .AB3I file is an AmiBlitz3 Image Bitmap file.

AmiBlitz3 Image Bitmap (.AB3I) is a bitmap image format produced by AmiBlitz3, a BASIC compiler and Integrated Development Environment for the Amiga platform. Developers writing programs in AmiBlitz3 can save graphics - such as shapes, sprites, or user-created images - into .AB3I files. These files serve as bitmaps to be loaded and manipulated within AmiBlitz3 code, typically shown in windows or drawn onto screen bitmaps.

Programs using AmiBlitz3 can then read .AB3I files via the image handling functions supplied in its distribution, especially those provided in the image.include.ab3 include file. These functions allow loading, displaying, altering, and saving .AB3I bitmaps in various graphics routines. The format supports use of chunky graphics formats and functions under AmiBlitz3 that use underlying Amiga graphics.library calls.

Files in this format begin with the ASCII signature "AB3I" at offset 0 (bytes 0x41 0x42 0x33 0x49).
