A4E File
What are A4E files and how to open them
Are you having problems opening an A4E file or are you simply curious about its contents? We're here to explain the properties of these files and provide you with software that can open or handle your A4E files.
What is an A4E file?
An .A4E file is an Authorware Packaged Library file.
Authorware is a multimedia authoring tool once offered by Macromedia and later Adobe, used to build interactive training and educational programs. It used components like media (images, audio, video), interaction icons, calculation icons, and flowlines to define the program's logic.
An A4E file is a packaged library created by Adobe Authorware. A library in Authorware is a collection of individual icons and their content (display, interaction, sound, movie, calculation icons), but without a flowline. When the library is packaged, it becomes read-only and embedding works so it can be shared or distributed separately from a main Authorware "piece." The runtime component of Authorware reads packaged libraries; it does not modify them.
Files begin with a binary signature bytes 0x50 0x4C 0x49 0x42 0xAF 0xB3 0xB6 0xBD (ASCII "PLIB" etc.) at the start of the file.
