What is a 8XK file?

A .8XK file is a Texas Instruments TI-8x Series Calculators Program file.

Texas Instruments TI-8x Series Calculators write .8XK files when a Flash Application (often called an App) is created for devices like the TI-83 Plus or TI-84 Plus. These files contain compiled assembly or machine‐level code and resources so that the application can be archived in the calculator's alternate ("Flash" or "Archive") memory and run via its APPS menu, rather than being a BASIC program.

These .8XK files are produced using TI's development tools or community tools (such as z80 assembler or proprietary link software) and are installed onto the calculator via file transfer utilities like TI-Connect or TI-Graph Link. Once on the device they behave like native applications stored in nonvolatile memory: they load from the App menu, retain their data through power cycles, and may require specific OS support.

Files in this format begin with a distinctive header: a signature starting at offset 0 reading the ASCII string TIFL (bytes 0x2A2A5449464C2A2A), followed by structured metadata including version or target ID bytes.
