What are 8BI files and how to open them

What is a 8BI file?

A .8BI file is a PhotoShop Plug-in file.

PhotoShop Plug-in files with the extension .8BI are executable add-ons made for Adobe Photoshop that enable the program to support additional file formats or image import/export capabilities beyond its built-in options. These plug-ins are placed into Photoshop's Plugins folder so they can be loaded when Photoshop starts.

A file format plug-in is one of several types of Photoshop plug-ins. Its job is to let Photoshop read ("import") or write ("export") images in a file format that Photoshop doesn't otherwise support. When a user opens or saves a file of the newly-handled format, Photoshop invokes the plug-in to translate between that format and Photoshop's internal image representation.

.8BI files are structured like a Windows "portable executable" (PE) binary: they start with the "MZ" header at offset 0 and include the common string "THIS PROGRAM CANNOT BE RUN IN DOS MODE." They also contain segments with names like .TEXT, .DATA, .RSRC and embedded resource signatures such as "PLUGIN", ".DLL", "ORIGINAL" and the "8BIM" / "MIB8…" labels indicative of Photoshop libraries.

How to open 8BI files

Important: Different programs may use files with the 8BI file extension for different purposes, so unless you are sure which format your 8BI file is, you may need to try a few different programs.
