What are 1TM files and how to open them

What is a 1TM file?

A .1TM file is a 1tracker Module file.

1tracker Module is a plain text format used by the music tracker software 1tracker, developed by Shiru. It stores songs created for ZX Spectrum-style audio engines, saving notes, instruments, effects, metadata and song layout in a readable text structure. Each song can use up to nine audio channels and be built with multiple custom "engines," and sections of the song may be organized with markers to separate parts like intro, verse or chorus.

Files with this format are saved by 1tracker (on Windows, Linux) when users compose chiptune or one-bit-style music. The text form allows editing in regular text editors and manual tweaking of fields. The songs are often exported from 1TM to other formats such as AY, TAP (for Commodore 64 tape images), or ASM code, depending on the engine selected.

A file in this format begins with "[1trackermodule]" at byte offset zero, and includes recognizable keyword fields elsewhere in the text: TITLE, AUTHOR, ENGINE, INSTRUMENTS, PATTERNFORMAT, SPEED, MEASURE, LOOPSTART, LOOPEND, SETTINGS, SONG among others. The files contain ASCII text and the extension ".1TE" appears within them in certain plugin or instrument references.

How to open 1TM files

Important: Different programs may use files with the 1TM file extension for different purposes, so unless you are sure which format your 1TM file is, you may need to try a few different programs.
