WinMerge

If you are looking for WinMerge, you have come to the right place. We explain what WinMerge is and point you to the official download.

What is WinMerge?

WinMerge is software developed by the WinMerge Development Team that provides the user with a file comparison program, which allows for identifying differences between 2 text files and merging the same to create a single text file containing all components found in both versions.

The program is particularly used in comparing source codes, where differences can be identified through syntax highlighting. Files for comparison can be opened within the same editing window, making it easier to compare differences.

WinMerge can also be used to compare folders and directories, where side by side comparison determines whether folders are identical or different. Comparison results also determine if binary files are identical or not, such that the following result is displayed: “Binary files are different.” Folder comparison may also be displayed in tree view, where folders can be expanded or collapsed. Folders can be synchronized and duplicate sub-folders and files can be deleted.

WinMerge is open source software distributed as freeware. It is available in several languages including English, Dutch, Greek, German, French, Japanese, Polish, Russian, Swedish and Turkish.
