What is Synfig Studio?
Synfig Studio is an open-source 2D animation software which is designed to be a solution for creating film-quality animation through a bitmap and vector artwork. It allows users to produce 2D animation without the need to create it frame by frame. Synfig Studio is available for Windows, Linux and MacOS X. Synfig Studio has several features which include Spatial resolution-independence, Temporal resolution independence which enables automatic interpolation in the computer, High Dynamic-Range Imaging (HDRI), Pentablet-friendly tools, Artist-oriented design, Path-based Gradients and Layers.
With the Spatial resolution-independence wherein most elements are vector-based, pixilation occurs in raster images and not in the built-in components. Using the floating-point math in image calculations will enable High Dynamic-Range Imaging HDRI processing to internally understand a far greater range of pixel luminance.
The Pentablet-friendly tools, on the other hand, allows users for a line weighting since the draw tools are pressure sensitive that channels off tablets. Synfig Studio’s Artist-oriented design also features an animation workflow. In addition, it supports a multitude of layers including gradients, transformations, filters, geometric, fractal, distortions, and more. Meanwhile, the Path-based Gradients feature allows users to add soft shading to animations.
