Sibelius First

What is Sibelius First?

Sibelius is a scorewriter program, created by Sibelius Software for Microsoft Windows, Mac OS X, and historically RISC OS. It is intended for composers, music publishers, arrangers, performers, teachers and students, particularly for writing band, vocal, classical, jazz, film and television music. Aside from editing and printing scores, Sibelius can also play music back using synthesized sounds. It can create legible scores for editing and printing, as well as broadcast scores for others to access through the Internet and iPads. Sibelius's main function is the creation, revision and printing of musical scores. It handles virtually all music notations, enabling even the most complicated of scores, such as modern orchestral music, to be duplicated to publication quality.

Sibelius supports any MIDI device, and permits VST and Audio Unit plug-ins to be used as playback instruments. This gives Sibelius users entry to third-party sample libraries, such as the Vienna Symphonic Library or MOTU's Symphonic Instrument. As an extra feature, Sibelius can synchronize Score playback to video, or to audio software via the ReWire standard. Additionally, it allows scores to be played back or converted into MIDI or audio files, e.g. to produce a CD. A large area of sampled sounds and built-in sample player are included.
