What is MySQL Workbench?

MySQL Workbench provides a program for designing databases. Generally utilized by database administrators and developers, the program also provides tools for SQL development, database management, data modeling, and database migration.

The user can write scripts or generate codes through two programming languages supported by the program: Python and Lua. Database design is done through visual representations to provide the developer with a clearer view of the schematics of the design.

MySQL Workbench also supports forward engineering, which basically entails turning a visual database into an actual, physical database. In addition to forward engineering, the developer can also utilize the reverse engineering option. This option allows the developer to get a closer look at the design of a specific database.

For SQL development, the program provides an SQL editor, which allows the developer to run SQL queries, reuse codes, generate data, and highlight syntax for to help them analyze and debug code.

MySQL Workbench is an open source program, distributed as free software under the GNU General Public License. In order to installs the software, the computer needs to be installed with Microsoft .NET Framework 4 Client Profile and Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 Redistributable Package (x86).
