What is Maple?
Maple is a CAS software program, otherwise known as Computer Algebra System; that provides the user with tools to render mathematical equations in symbolic form. The software is from the company Waterloo Maple, Inc., also known as Maplesoft.
The software’s main features are categorized as follow: Mathematics, Smart Document Environment, Application Areas, High Performance Computing, Connectivity and Education. Each of these features has its own sub-categorized functions.
For instance, under Mathematics, you have Symbolic and Numeric Math; which allows you to use symbolic computations for more accurate results. There is also Comprehensive Mathematics under this category, which provides you with more than five hundred mathematical functions that include solutions numerically and symbolically; and Equation Solving, that provide you with tips and strategies in solving equations and systems of equations.
Under Smart Documentation, you get the following sub-categories: Math Equation Editor, Visualization, Pot Annotations and Customizations, Context-Sensitive Menus, and Interactive Assistants, to name a few.
Application Areas include Financial Modeling, Statistics and Process Control, Physics and Control Design. For High Performance Computing, applications include Automatic Parallelism, Multi-process Programming on a Local Grid, and Multithreaded Programming.
The latest edition of software is Maple 16, which has a Professional version, Academic version and Student Edition.
