JNLP
If you are looking for JNLP, you have come to the right place. We explain what JNLP is and point you to the official download.
What is JNLP?
JNLP refers to three things, both associated with Java. First, it can refer to the JNLP-extension format, which is an XML file format. Second, it can refer to the Java Network Launching Protocol itself, which is used in the creation and operation of JNLP-format files. This protocol is what provides the guidelines on how a JNLP or Web Start application should be executed. Third, it can refer to a JNLP client. While there are several of these available, by far the most common is Java Web Start. If he has this application, a user can use the Java Network Launching Protocol on his computer.
Java Web Start can be understood as the mechanism by which JNLP files are launched on a computer that has requested them from the Web. It parses JNLP files, checks what resources the files require and requests them, then launches the application once all the necessary resources come together. As such, one may think of it as the equivalent of a web browser for HTML files—it is supposed to be used with Java applications that are served from the Internet.
